Spent a Friday afternoon watching the re-made Footloose. Good music, pretty girls and not-so-cute boys. The dance sequences were not really impressive, despite the induction of the hip-hop sections in the dance items.

To an old-school dance fan like me, I felt the dancers lacked grace. They moved well, alright. I will not be able to move like them, I know that too. But Kevin Bacon's dance oozed grace and elegance. Bacon and his troupe also had the softness that even wild teenagers have. They are wild because they do not know what's out there but their eyes, their bodies and their hearts betray their minds. They are only teenagers. The re-make had teenagers who looked their age, but hardly had the innocence in their eyes. They were grown ups. The only actor who came close to the original was the one who replaced Chris Penn. He was innocent and played his part well.

Dirty Dancing is being re-made too. Why? I am sure the director and the actors will do a good job (who doesn't, these days?) but I know I will always see Patrick Swayze in the guy who plays his role. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, when you hear the song, 'I've had the time of my life', it is only one cat-eyed dude that comes to mind. Why spoil that image? I am only being just to the guy who will take up Swayze's part. He will never be judged without prejudice.

What will happen if the Godfather is re-made? Who will play Don Corleone? Any suggestions? Who will play Michael? Can anyone come up with a name? Who will play Ben-Hur if it is re-made? There are men with far more impressive physiques than Charlton Heston today, but will that make anyone a more suitable Ben-Hur? Can anyone else play the spirited troublemaker in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest other than Jack Nicholson?

When will we realize that there is still place for the sacred in life? You do not tamper with divinity. You do not disturb eternal beauty. You let it be. The next time you look at it, it has increased in elegance and power.

Any thoughts, anyone?
